An idea

Balcony going uhhh swimmingly. Forget-me-not started flowering first, on the 4th of May.

First forget-me-not flowers

Followed by an absolute explosion of lily pads all racing up to greet the water’s surface around late May.

Much to my delight the plants seem to have ferried in some molluscan hitchhikers when they were delivered. I started to notice aquatic snails galore, with eggs being laid under the lily pads and among the hornwort.

And then a few weeks later, I found a damselfly larva, great sign of biodiversity and that an ecosystem is establishing itself.

Plus bonus pic of cat number 2.

At this point my balcony experiment seemed to be pretty successful, so my attention started to turn towards grandiose ideas of POND EXPANSIONISM…
